Welcome to the Chef Recommended: Cookbook Series where we ask cannabis chefs “What’s one cookbook you’d recommend to canna-curious food lovers and/or aspiring cannabis chefs?”

First up in the series, we asked Delaware-based chef Patrick Lee, who became a chef and culinary influencer after losing his corporate finance job of eight years in 2020. He has since pursued his dream of cooking and plays with ways to stretch meals by being creative in the kitchen. Now a private chef and social media influencer, his dishes have been featured on The FeedFeed, The Kitchn, and The Shade Room. He says, “Some of my favorite dishes to make infused include my famous wings, infused desserts, and one-of-a-kind beverages.” Follow him at @cookingwithpatlee

Chef Patrick Lee Recommends:

Jubilee: Recipes from Two Centuries of African American Cooking” by Toni Tipton-Martin

“Jubilee: Recipes from Two Centuries of African American Cooking” by Toni Tipton-Martin

Why It’s Essential to Patrick: “It’s a book that shares centuries of recipes from African American chefs. I get inspired to create recipes that stay true to my roots because of it, but also add my own twist to a lot of culinary classics.”

Through recipes and stories, Tipton-Martin guides us in cooking alongside pioneering figures who established what’s considered to be our national cuisine, from enslaved White House chefs to middle- and upper-class writers and entrepreneurs. With more than 100 recipes including classics such as Sweet Potato Biscuits, Seafood Gumbo, Buttermilk Fried Chicken, and Pecan Pie with Bourbon and lesser-known but even more decadent dishes, such as Bourbon & Apple Hot Toddies, Spoon Bread, and Baked Ham Glazed with Champagne. Jubilee presents techniques, ingredients, and dishes that show the roots of African American cooking—deeply beautiful, culturally diverse, and fit for celebration. Read more from Good Reads

“Bong Appétit: Mastering the Art of Cooking with Weed” by the editors of MUNCHIES
