The Clever Root Raises a Glass to the First-Ever National Drink Cannabis Day

This year may be the first you’ve heard of 820, AKA, National Drink Cannabis Day, but it won’t be the last. Launched by the Cannabis Beverage Association as an initiative to celebrate the normalization, growth and accessibility of the infused beverage category, 820 is designed to be the drinks version of 420 or 710, two “stoner holidays” that have become canon for those who love flower or concentrates. With H the eighth letter in the alphabet, 820 offers a nod to the water molecule, H2O, and thus the water soluble technology that drives cannabis beverages. We also admit we find it fitting because it’s hot AF in August, and who doesn’t need an ice-cold beverage during this peak summer heat wave?

The brainchild of CBA President Diana Eberlein, 820 will bring consumer awareness to the category through content and will be celebrated with a series of events across the country on Sunday August 20, including one co-hosted by The Clever Root, The CBA, and Harmony Craft Beverages. Says Harmony Craft Beverages CEO Evan Eneman, “Beverages are the backbone of socializing, so it’s only natural that we create spaces and opportunities for people to gather and learn about this exciting category. We are excited to bring 820 to life by doing what beverages do best—bringing people together.”

In order to amplify the message around this inaugural holiday, the CBA has partnered with the Cannabis Media Council, whose existing “I’m High Right Now” campaign strives to normalize cannabis by building advertising campaigns showcasing consumers in ordinary situations whose lives are enhanced and improved by cannabis. Combining these two campaigns leverages the social acceptability of beverage consumption and combines it with the CMC’s cheeky admittance that, yeah, “I’m High Right Now.”

So this Sunday, whether you’re looking for a way to enjoy your morning by socialize with friends, hitting the links, or just hanging in the backyard, lift a glass of your favorite infused drink and cheers to the future of cannabis beverages!
